A blood sugar test is one using a finger prick or needle stick. Random blood sugar test is a test that is taken random time even after the patient has had their meal.
The normal range for the normal random blood sugar level is less than 200mg/dL. If the range is somewhere between 140 mg/dL to 200 mg/dL this means that there is possibility of a pre-diabetic symptom in the body.
If the blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be considered diabetic, glucose tolerance test is usually performed.
Random blood sugar test is a routine part of physical exam. Even of the patient have eaten recently and the blood sugar is at its peak, the level should not be more than 200 mg/L.
