Diabetes affecting internal organs

It is a very complicated and complex disease that affects all organs in the human body. The long term affects of the disease are serious and involve every organ of the body. It affects nearly every organ, from heart liver to the eyes , brain and kidneys.

The organs that suffer most from devastation of diabetes are the so-called end organs.

It can rob the ability to feel things with the fingers and can cause terribly painful nerve problems, among a host of other ailments.

Diabetes affects the colon by causing constipation. Diabetes affects the stomach by causing gastroparesis with frequent indigestion, bloating and burning in the stomach. It also can cause sexual impotence.

Its presence predicts an early and often painful death to frequently as the result of a diabetes caused heart attack or stroke. A stroke is the result of damage to the blood vessels that circulate blood in the brain. The heart is affected by diabetes by causing hardening of the arteries, known as atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis causes narrowing of the coronary arteries, resulting in ischemic heart disease, which causes engine pectoris and frequently results in myocardial infarction.

People with diabetes, especially those with poor control of their blood sugar, are at risk for developing infections of the gums and bone that hold the teeth in place.

In the eyes, abnormal shifts of water and chemicals can impair the vision by causing swelling of the lens. If the blood sugar is elevated for a prolonged period of time, cataracts may develop and glaucoma, which is common in diabetes.
